Younger Explorers/Play

Many of the attractions in the ‘Explore …..’ sections are suitable for younger children too;  it’s worth checking out their websites to find out what age groups they cater to.  For example, Elsecar Heritage Centre sometimes has a visit from Thomas the Tank Engine.

Here are some of the local playgrounds where you can take your young explorers:

Penistone - behind the market place, small playground, ages 3 - 10

Oxspring - new large playground, lots of equipment for a village playground, suitable for babies up to 10.

Thurgoland – a few swings and a recreation ground with football net, age 3 upwards

Silkstone - Martin Croft, (near the church) new playground with
climbing frame etc, age 3-10

Hoylandswaine. Small playground next to the village hall.  Suitable for
under 5s.
