Penistone is ideally situated as a base for visiting different cultural attractions.

The renowned theatres in Sheffield and Leeds are easily accessible, and here in Penistone itself, the local cinema hosts the Compton Cinema organ, originally installed in the Paramount Theatre, Birmingham, with regular organ recitals.

There are local theatres and art galleries, fine houses and museums to visit in the locality.

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Bretton is one of Europe’s finest open air galleries, with a programme of exhibitions and events, all set within 500 acres of parkland.

There are regular concerts at City Hall in Sheffield, and the Don Valley stadium and Hallam Arena host some of the biggest names in rock and pop.

During January and February, Penistone and some of the villages put on their own pantomimes, full of local jokes, a contrast to the soap-star productions of the larger theatres.

There are nightclubs and bars in Barnsley, Sheffield and Huddersfield, and quiet country pubs in the villages. Something for everyone.
