So come & share all of this with us, experiencing a rural way of life within reach of the big city attractions.
SPECIAL TOUR DE FRANCE SECTION!
The Tour de France begins in Yorkshire ("Le Grand Départ") and the second stage passes through Langsett in the south west of the Penistone region.
A special section of this has been developed for people who will be visiting the area for the event. It features a series of maps for the route between Holmfirth and Bradfield, accommodation, attractions and food and drink and more.
There's also a section dedicated to walks in the area for those who'll be staying longer than the event itself.
See a timelapse video of the route from Wodhead to Bradfield on the right.
There's a variety of entertainment venues in the area: from the famous city centre theatres, arenas and multiplexes to the more intimate venues such as Penistone Paramount cinema/theatre, Barnsley's Civic and Holfmirth's Picturedrome.
Penistone can be dated back to 1066 and is listed in the Domesday Book. Several pre-19th Century buildings still survive, the oldest being the Grade I listed mediaeval parish church, Saint John the Baptist Church; the White Hart pub in the town dates from 1377 and the secondary school, established in 1342 is said to be one of the odlest in the country. The Penistone landscape
Penistone is located at the foot of the Pennines and is surrounded by beautiful and historic landscape which is well worth exploring on the ground. There's plenty of unbuilt, open countryside such as the moors at Langsett where you can walk for hours and not meet anyone. There are several reservoirs & woodland in the area offering tranquil retreats and spectacular views.
