Welcome to Penistone and District, the Pennine Heart of Yorkshire South.
The highest market town in the county and one of the best-kept secrets in Yorkshire South and the Pennines, Penistone deserves close investigation to reveal its hidden treasures.
There’s something here for everybody and although ideal for day trips to attractions such as the Trans Pennine Trail or the annual Penistone Show, the wide range of accommodation available in the Penistone area also means we're perfectly located to use as a base for longer stays: the M1 is only 15 minutes by car so Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Huddersfield & Leeds, with Manchester and Bradford, home of the National Museum of Film & Photography, are all within easy reach for a day trip.
So come & share all of this with us, experiencing a rural way of life within reach of the big city attractions.

A Spectacular Christmas Fundraising Sale and Exhibition of Quality Art & Handcrafted Gifts By Local Artists and Makers.
Art at the Altar was established in 2005 and will be in the fourth year of its annual Christmas festival of quality arts and crafts by artists in the Penistone District. It's organized by local artists and volunteers, hosted by St. John's Church and supported by local businesses and its short existence it has raised over £4000 for charity.
This year, 20% of all sales will be going towards supporting the provision of a clean water supply to the community of Gacharu village, Kenya.

- Saturday 29th November 10.15 am – 8pm
- Sunday 30th November 10.15am - 5pm
But be sure not to miss this chance to buy original art and crafts at reasonable prices, many of which are offered at significantly less than standard gallery prices.

From Saturday 15th November – 24th December, 10am-4pm, the estate will be transformed into a ‘Wentworth Wonderland’.
A trip to this magical place will include a complementary glass of mulled wine and a mince pie for adult visitors, while our younger guests can enjoy meeting and receiving a present from Santa!
With all this excitement, don’t forget about our seasonally dressed Gardens, where children can try and solve the ‘Reindeer Trail’ and then return to claim their free bag of Yuletide sweets!
Or explore over 500 acres of historic Parkland and enjoy watching our Red and Fallow Deer.
Before you go, be sure to take a walk on lantern-lit paths and enjoy the majestic views from Stainborough Castle... a festive treat not to be missed!

If you live outside Yorkshire or live in the county but travel for 3 hours or more to reach the area, then you can complete the questionnaire and be entered for a prize draw.

CONGRATULATIONS TO WENTWORTH CASTLE GARDENS!
Wentworth Castle Gardens has won a White Rose Award for Tourism 2008 in the Visitor Attraction of the Year "under 50,000 visitors category."
It's a well-deserved award for one of the most popular attractions in the region.
The White Rose Awards for Tourism are organised annually by Yorkshire Tourist Board (YTB), and supported by Yorkshire Forward.
The awards are a celebration of excellence and and are a highly respected symbol of quality
for consumers.
