Britain's first museum has grown from its origins as the main royal and national arsenal at the Tower of London into a family of museums located throughout the United Kingdom and in North America.
This family is home to the UK's national collection of arms and armour.
Throughout the year, live performances put you in the midst of the action. From April to October we recreate jousting tournaments, and let you get close to the falcons and horses that are part of the pageant. Or you may prefer to witness swashbuckling pirates, or Joan of Arc rallying her troops.
There are also over 8,000 exhibits to see – and some you can touch – in our five themed galleries: War, Tournament, Oriental, Hunting and Self Defence. Discover what it was like to hold a 15th century poleaxe or a powder-firing musket, and take a good look at the armour Henry VIII actually wore. We’ve recently updated our exhibitions, so if you’ve been here before, there are plenty of new objects to see.
The Royal Armouries Museum spans 3,000 years of history – and is still relevant to the issues of power and conflict we live with today. Come along with the whole family, for a truly memorable, fun-packed day out.
