Situated on the west side of Barnsley and partially within the Peak District National Park, it's an area of villages set in gently rolling, wooded hills which gradually rise westwards to the moorlands of the Dark Peak.
Penistone itself is set in the heart of this area, less than six miles west of junction 37 of the M1 motorway.

road, 28 miles east of Manchester, 23 miles
south of Leeds, 13 miles north-west of
Sheffield, and 7 miles west of Barnsley.

Penistone has its own railway station on the scenic Sheffield to Huddersfield Line (The Penistone Line) from where you can get a connection to most parts of the UK.
Services run hourly and there's also a Sunday service.
Penistone has direct bus services to Barnsley, Sheffield and Holmfirth, with long distance coaches calling at Barnsley, Huddersfield and Sheffield.
