Penistone itself has all the local facilities that a visitor could need.
There are 2 small supermarkets, bank branches with external cash machines and a post office.
The shops include a delicatessen, chemists, butchers, newsagents, a card shop, flower shops and dress shops.
Also on offer are hairdressers, both for men and women, beauty salons and a small sports centre with a gym.
There is a selection of pubs, cafes and places to eat, including both Indian and Chinese takeaways and of course fish and chips. For those that wish to attend, there are Church of England, Methodist and Catholic churches here.
Doctors and dentists are available within the town itself.
Penistone has the only library within the area, and a mobile service runs to the villages on different days.
The market in the town also runs every Thursday with the Country Market operating the same day in St Johns Community Centre between 10am and 12. The Farmers Market is held on the second Saturday of the month in the market place.
Penistone itself also offers a laundrette, and a garage with adjacent tyre services. Most of the outlying villages have sub-post offices, which usually also sell other goods including food items. Silkstone has a thriving combined garage, post office and supermarket which is open very long hours; Wortley has a general store, next door to tea rooms and a nursery/florist. Cawthorne is the local antiques centre, while Thurgoland also has a garage/general store, as well as sub post office and hairdresser.

Although there's not an official Tourism Board office in Penistone, we do have Tourism Information Points in various locations - we hope to add more soon.
