For watching athletics, Don Valley Stadium is the place to go. The Stadium was built in 1991 for the World Student Games.

 

Penistone Footpath Runners & AC

Locally, Penistone Footpath Runners & AC have both a junior & senior section, and welcome new runners.
They organise the 10K road race which is a perennial part of the annual Penistone Show.
Of course, the Trans Pennine Trail is a very popular venue for runners and easily accessible along its length. The surface is gravelled in places but can get muddy in the winter.
There are also many footpaths in the area, and circular routes are easily plotted. There is a local scheme to Adopt a Path, in order to keep the footpaths open, litter-free and safe.
